WHAT DO WE NEED IN ORDER TO PARTICIPATE IN COMPETITIONS?

For all of our competitions, we recommend any computer (64 bit computers with 4 Core Processor, 4+ GB RAM, 30+ GB Hard Drive space) with an updated browser (Chrome, Brave, or Firefox) and an Internet Connection (DSL and up). Other software such as VMware Workstation Player and Oracle VirtualBox is recommended, but not necessary.

DO WE NEED TO "KNOW COMPUTERS" BEFORE PARTICIPATING?

No, it is not a prerequisite to know programming or other prior knowledge before joining. While having programming knowledge is a benefit, we will teach and mentor you through the process. We are actively seeking interested faculty and students who want to participate with us.

DO WE HAVE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE SUMMER CAMPS IN ORDER TO QUALIFY IN THE OTHER COMPETITIONS?

No, but attending the summer camps does provide competitors with a lead both in knowledge and experience prior to the competition year. It is not a requirement for competitors to participate, but are encouraged to join.

IF A STUDENT CANNOT ATTEND AN ON-SITE TRAINING AT THE COLLEGES, WHAT CAN THEY DO?

All trainings are live streamed via Zoom to allow students to participate no matter where they are. All the trainings will be recorded and made available to the region.

WHAT ARE THE QUALIFICATIONS TO GET INVOLVED?

  • Coaches are ideally K-12 teachers; they have the best knowledge of the students and their teams. Coaches do not have to be subject matter experts; they are facilitators for the students and the mentors. Coaches are the point person between the Region and the students.

  • Mentors are subject matter experts. We provide the training and the resources for mentors to be effective at the sites they support.

  • Competitors are currently enrolled Middle, High School or Community College students.

WHAT ARE THE COSTS TO THIS PROGRAM?

The program itself is free. While we do our best to encourage participation into free competitions, we do have three contests that require payment to play, SkillsUSA, National Cyber League and CyberPatriot. Please see the competitions page for more information.

I WOULD LIKE TO DONATE TO THE PROGRAM. WHOM DO I CONTACT?

Please contact our Deputy Sector Navigator, Richard Grotegut at rgrotegut@gmail.com.

WILL THE STUDENTS RECEIVE COLLEGE CREDIT FOR THE ACTIVITIES?

Some of our participating colleges are working to provide college credit for our summer camps. Please speak with your local community college to find out more.
